Contrary to popular belief, dreams are not premonitions. Unless you’re a medium of course. (Cue the spooky music.) In reality, our dreams are merely a reflection of our anxieties. And apparently, we all face similar anxieties because many of share some dreams in common. In fact, a majority of us have experienced at least two or more of the following dreams.
Dreams where you’re being chased.
If you’re being chased by Ryan Gosling, that’s one thing. But that’s never the case in these chase dreams, is it? In these dreams you’re usually being pursued by a shadowy, menacing figure. And you don’t know why, but you’re scared. And so you run, and run, and run. But you hardly ever run fast enough. It’s quite frustrating. These dreams often indicate that you’re trying to avoid something in your life. The clue as to what usually lies in who, or what, is chasing you.
Dreams about falling.
Falling in your dreams can be quite jolting. Literally. And in public, yeah that can be embarrassing. Sucks to find everyone staring at you—half concerned about you, half terrified you might be possessed. The good news is, contrary to the famed misconception, you can’t die if you hit the ground. Still, that doesn’t make the experience any less unpleasant. Your falling dream may be due to fears or concerns you have hidden beneath the surface. It may not even be a conscious one. You may be worried about losing your job or losing your partner. Once you’ve eased your concern and let go a little, you may find you’re able to sleep more comfortably.
Dreams about your teeth falling out.
We’re all bound to lose our teeth eventually. Obviously. But that happens gradually, along with lovely memories of a life well lived. And that’s far from what these dreams are about. Dreaming about losing your teeth may indicate that you’re concerned about your physical appearance, you’re troubled about being unable to communicate, or that you’re worried about something you already communicated.
Dreams about being naked in public.
There aren’t many people who would feel comfortable standing completely naked in front of a group of people. Except for maybe nudists. So it’s easy to see why this would be a common dream. But it turns out that the most likely meaning of your public nudity dream has nothing to do with the fear of public nudity. It may well be an indication that you feel like a fake, and that you’re afraid of showing your faults and imperfections.
None of these seem like pleasant dreams to have. They’re more like nightmares really. You’re not meeting prince charming or driving your dream car. But now that you know what they mean, you can work on getting your best sleep ever. We wrote some tips here. And some more here. You’ll find we cover everything from finding the right mattress to what foods you should avoid. (Did you know spicy food could lead to nightmares?)
